The Leal Senado Building (Portuguese for Loyal Senate) was the seat of Portuguese Macau's government (Legislative Assembly of Macau and Municipal Council of Macau). It is located at one end of the Senado Square. More info in Wikipedia. 

My nanoblock Macau Exhibition in Hong Kong

I was in Hong Kong the past week to do the setup for the event, do media interviews and also participate in the launch event =D ... That's me putting everything together until after midnight on Sunday ... Hahahaa ...

Malaysian Nano Brick Artist Makes It Big

Internationally renowned award-winning Malaysian nano brick artist Christopher Tan releases his own designs as official nanoblock sets in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. In this first ever collaboration between an independent artist outside Japan with Kawada, the makers of nanoblock, Chris brings us a series of four nanoblock Japanese Food items - Sushi, Bento, Ramen and Temaki.

Only 3,024 of each item is being released, making them highly sought after limited release collectibles for nanoblock fans worldwide. They are available now in Malaysia at Kinokuniya, Aeon, Toys R Us, Hamleys, Popular, Isetan and other stockists, and retail at RM39.90 each.

Chris has been a full-time nano brick artist for over two years now, having started building with nanoblock over five years ago as a hobby. “It is like a dream come true to be able to finally have my own creations released commercially as official nanoblock sets" says Christopher, obviously overjoyed.

Over the years, Chris has grown a huge fan base of over 51,000 fans worldwide on Facebook (facebook.com/christan) and many more on other popular social media channels.

He has been involved in various international collaborations, most recently with Hong Kong film director Pang Ho-Cheung to create a limited edition Christmas gift. Last year, Chris had a successful art exhibition in Liang Court mall in Singapore and two art exhibitions in Malaysia in conjunction with AniManGaki 2015 and C2AGE 2015. In 2014, he had an exhibition in East Point City in Hong Kong during the World Cup season where he was involved with the design and construction of the largest nanoblock creation in the world, using over 250,000 bricks.

My XL nanoblock Maneki Neko and Shishimai

Here is my extra large nanoblock Maneki Neko and Shishimai that was specially commissioned for my exhibition in Liang Court mall in Singapore recently =)

The maneki-neko is a common Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman) which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. In modern times, they are usually made of ceramic or plastic. The figurine depicts a cat (traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—often at the entrance—of shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. The maneki-neko is sometimes also called the welcoming cat, lucky cat, money cat, happy cat, beckoning cat, or fortune cat in English. - From Wikipedia

Japan has a long tradition of the lion dance and the dance is known as shishi-mai (獅子舞) in Japanese. It is thought to have been imported from China during the Tang Dynasty, and became associated with celebration of Buddha's birthday. The oldest surviving lion mask, made of paulownia wood with an articulated lower jaw, is preserved in Tōdai-ji in Japan. The dance is commonly performed during the New Year where the lion dancers may be accompanied by flute and drum musicians. - From Wikipedia

nanoblock Studio Apartment Review

In this review, I will be taking a look at the Studio Apartment nanoblock set. It is one of three in the new series featuring types of houses.  This set was released by Kawada recently and it is the first to introduce nanoids. They are tiny little nano-people, as you can see in the photo below. 

There are over 380 blocks included in this set and a large piece of instruction sheet. Most of the bricks are the tiny variety.

Following are some photos of the build process and the finished built. It took around 45 minutes to complete it. It was fairly easy to build, it just take a while as there are many small bricks to assemble.

What's cool about this set is that the roof can be easily lifted off to reveal the interiors of the apartment. The sliding door can be moved and the front door swings open too! There are also various details in the apartment like a giant TV, sofa, kitchen, etc.

Rushing for Exhibitions

That's how my desk looks like right now, as I am rushing to build all my previous creations for some upcoming exhibitions. It looks like a lot of bricks, but it's still not enough to build everything I have ever created ... Hahaha ... My first exhibition will be in Kinokuniya @ KLCC (Malaysia) for the whole month of May ... more details will be posted closer to the date =)
